Lance Brown Photo

“It’s been my lifelong dream to own my own restaurant. I didn’t give up when I realized I didn’t have half a million dollars to start a restaurant. I stayed focused and learned how to enter the market from a different door. I’m so proud to have gotten this off the ground.”

“I learned early on not to give up,” observed Lancelot Brown, owner of Jamaica Grill Jerk Center. “I wanted to open up my own one hundred seat restaurant at first. It didn’t quite work that way.”

Lance has the type of conviction and enthusiasm that lights a spark in those around him. As a young man, he grew up enjoying the bountiful flavors of the Caribbean. When you are a food truck owner, many things can go wrong. “There are going to be things that are going to sway you, that can come at you all at once and it can be really rough for you. You just have to stick with it and keep your faith.” That’s Genea’s advice for entrepreneurs that are new to the food truck industry.

Since starting Brooklyn Organic Coffee and Tea, Genea has dealt with broken generators, stolen machinery, limits on city permits and strict health standards.

After working for a health and wellness company, Genea developed a desire to help others make changes in lifestyle and food choices. This desire helped inspire her to start Brooklyn Organic Coffee and Tea.

“I noticed that many of the food truck options around were fried foods. I wanted to provide an alternative,” explained Genea.
