Congratulations to Isela Hernandez, an Accion client, for being selected as a finalist in La Idea Business Pitch Competition! She competed against 55 business partnerships in the semifinal round of the competition.
During the New York semifinal event, Isela gave her 5-minute business pitch during which she delighted the judges with her product line including mole poblano, mexican hot chocolate and artisanal kitchenware.
Raised in Del Rio Texas, a small town near the Mexican border, Isela was able to explore American and Mexican cultures. After a successful career in New York City’s fashion industry she decided to start HERNÁN, a brand of premium products that brings the Mexican culinary culture to the US and global markets.
Isela started HERNÁN in 2007 with a line of traditional, Mexican-made serve-ware. With passion, hard work and dedication, not to mention an Accion loan, she was able to add new gourmet product lines to her company. Today HERNÁN’S products are available in different premium and specialty stores such as Dean and Deluca, Crate and Barrel, and Whole Foods, as well as several websites such as cooking.com and Igourmet.com.
The La Idea finale event will be held in Miami, Florida during the second week of December. HERNÁN as well as other 15 companies will be participating at the finale event, which includes a week of coaching and networking with other professionals and business experts. The finalists will be competing for a $50,000 dollar grant, over $100,000 in business services and international visibility.
Accion wishes the best of luck to Isela in the final round of the competition!
